The Alexandra, Birmingham today unveils the 2023 Spring brochure, with a feast of theatrical treats for audiences to enjoy in 2023. It may be cold outside, but guests will always enjoy a warm welcome at The Alexandra. 

Purveyors of fine entertainment, The Alexandra, Birmingham will present a bountiful choice of shows to audiences for their delight and amazement, welcoming 2023 with a bang!  

Musical lovers will be overjoyed at the returning classics lined up, including the legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical TheRocky Horror Show, the multi-Tony award-winning The King and I starring Call the Midwife’s Helen George and the beloved childhood favourite, Annie, starring Craig Revel Horwood as ‘Miss Hannigan’

Birmingham premieres will include Bob Dylan’s double Olivier and Tony award-winning musical The Girl from the North Country and from the silver screen and Deborah Moggach’s best-selling novel The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel starring Hollywood royalty Hayley Mills, Rula Lenska and Paul Nicholas. Not forgetting that Dreamgirls will bedazzle Birmingham’s Christmas 2022 throughout the whole month of December.

If a thrilling evening is the order of the day, audiences will be able to sleuth to their heart’s content with upcoming shows, including the greatest-selling novelist of all time, the stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d with Coronation Street’s Susie Blake and Heartbeat’s Joe McFaddenPlus, the theatre welcomes Peter James’ 6th on-stage adaptation, fresh from ITV’s hit drama Grace, with Wish You Were Dead featuring Casualty’s Clive Mantle and George Rainsford.

If high drama is the preference, Neil Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane is adapted from the best-selling fantasy novel, starring EastEnder’s Charlie Brooks, and the stage adaption of Steel Magnolias, on which the film was originally based, will feature The X Factor’s Diana Vickers and Call the Midwife’s Laura Main. 

An unusual thriller with a side of Drag comedy, Death Drop Back in the Habit will be the perfect treat, starring Drag royalty JujuBee, Cheryl Hole, Victoria Scone and LoUis CYfer. The Alexandra will also be serving the finest dark comedy with cult 80s hit musical Heathers and Theatr Clywd / National Theatre’s Home I’m Darling starring BAFTA award-winner Jessica Ransom (Doc Martin)

The Alexandra’s ‘one night only’ slate includes the stars from stage and screen including Johannes Radebe who returns to the Alex after his sell-out 2022 tour with his new show Freedom Unleashed, the infamous comedianJimmy Carr and Prue Leith, fresh from Great British Bake Off, will be spilling the ‘tea’. Verdi’s Aida and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly will grace The Alex, bestowing opera upon the stage.

Theatre especially for families, where young and old will delight in the family friendly fare in 2023, including the ‘roarsome’ Jurassic Live, Mischief’s hilarious new comedy, the Mind Mangler and David Walliam’s Demon Dentist. There will be something for everyone to enjoy at The Alexandra Birmingham.
