Cambridge Punting on the River

If you’re ever in Cambridge Punting on the River is a different way of experiencing the city; pass under historical bridges like the Bridge of Sighs.

Punting is where you travel along the river in a boat. Cambridgeshire is the perfect place for this!

Punting down the River Cam is easily the best way to enjoy Cambridge. On a hot sunny day catch some rays whilst punting along this river. You can also see the back of what Cambridge is most famous for, Cambridge University. A view of what is called the backs is truly beautiful and astonishing with the brilliant builds and wonderful bridges. The colleges of Cambridge University which you can catch a glimpse of on your travel along the river are King’s College, Trinity College, and St Johns College.

Along your travels, you can also glide under the well-known Mathematical Bridge. This bridge is cleverly made out of perfectly straight timbers. It is named the Mathematical Bridge due to its ‘geometrical construction’. This bridge was designed in 1748 by William Etheridge, and only a year later it was built.

The Bridge Of Sighs is another bridge you may come across whilst venturing along the River Cam. This bridge is 190 years old. It is the only bridge built with a cover and in a Victorian Gothic Style within the university.
