A weekly series of entertaining and thought-provoking after hours talks, discussions and workshops.
Thu 9 & Thu 16 June, 6pm – 9pm
Planting for the Planet
Imagine a greener Greater Manchester resilient to the impacts of climate change. A place that works with nature, and where their city is filled with rain gardens, street trees, green roofs, green living walls and greenspaces…
Inspired by the Planting for the Planet exhibition at RHS Bridgewater, join them on 9 June for the Climate Café, a non-judgemental discussion about climate action, and on 16 June enjoy an interactive workshop inspired by the exhibition.
Thu 23 June, 6pm – 9pm
Designing the Windrush Garden
In 2021, first-time garden designer Dawn Evans won the BBC Local Radio City Garden competition. Her garden, ‘Windrush’, was shown at the RHS Tatton Flower Show before being installed at RHS Bridgewater.
Inspired by memories of her parents’ Jamaican heritage and their generation’s journey to the UK, Dawn has created a place of peace and a space to relax and reflect. On Thu 23 July, Dawn will be in conversation with BBC Radio Manchester’s Karen Gabay, talking about her inspirations and how she created a tropical haven in a garden in Greater Manchester. Round off your evening with live calypso singing and refreshments in the Stables Cafe.
Thu 30 June, 6pm – 9pm
Homegrown Homespun: From Field to Fabric
In 2020 the Blackburn-based Homegrown Homespun project was launched. A collaboration between Justine Aldersey-Williams of The Wild Dyery and North West England Fibreshed, designer Patrick Grant, and arts commissioning organisation The Super Slow Way, the team planted their first woad and flax crops in April 2021 and their journey towards growing a pair of jeans began!
Enjoy an evening hearing all about this innovative sustainable fashion project, and get hands on in interactive workshops following the journey of plants to fabric through carding, spinning, dyeing and weaving.
