London Zoo launches new Penguin Keeper experience

London Zoo is inviting penguin lovers to get closer to their favourite animal and become a Penguin Keeper for a morning – an exciting new experience at the world-famous conservation zoo.

From Friday 8 March penguin fans will be able to join London Zoo’s experts and more than 70 Humboldt penguins on the iconic zoo’s Penguin Beach, seeing if they have what it takes to care for the flightless favourites.

Honourary keepers will get stuck into a Penguin Keeper’s morning routine, carefully preparing the waddle’s (the name for a group of penguins!) food before having fun feeding them their fishy breakfast. Discover fascinating facts about each penguin and their daily health checks, before helping with the monumental task of cleaning up after the notoriously poopy colony.

Participants will get to ask the zoo’s unflappable experts questions about their favourite bird, before spending the rest of the day exploring London Zoo – being inspired by more than 14,000 animals, many of which are threatened in the wild and part of important global breeding programmes.

London Zoo’s Head of Commercial, Lee Duffy said: “If you’ve ever dreamt of mucking in (or mucking out) with a team of Zookeepers, now is your chance. Adding this extra special moment to your visit to London Zoo will make it a unique experience; families and friends can come behind the scenes of our conservation zoo, creating incredible memories amongst nature together.”

Perfect for both adults and families with children ages 8+, the new, 90-minute Penguin Keeper Experience will take place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Friday 8 March. A personalised experience is guaranteed with just four people per group daily. Tickets to the exclusive experience start from £115 per person, plus admission to London Zoo.
