Sing-a-long-a Evenings Coming Up at The Alexandra Theatre

Warm up your vocal chords as Sing-a-long-a Encanto and Sing-a-long-a The Greatest Showman come to The Alexandra Birmingham, to brighten up the long, dark evenings

Sing-a-long-a Encanto arrives at The Alexandra Birmingham on Saturday 22 October 2022

Sing-a-long-a Encanto, a unique interactive sing-a-long-a show featuring the smash-hit Disney musical film Encanto

Gather la Familia! It’s time to celebrate something truly magical.

The smash hit film musical of 2021, all about the adventures of the Family Madigral, will have the song lyrics on screen, so that everyone can join in singing.

Cheer on Mirabel as she tries to save the magic surrounding her Encanto.  Sing your heart out with our live host, who will teach you some dance moves, help you create some magic and show you how to use your free props bag.

Those of you not familiar with Encanto, it is a tale of The Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto.

The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.

It couldn’t be more fun to join in! The first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES! Fancy dress is encouraged and full audience participation is essential.  You – the audience – are the stars.

And remember, we don’t talk about Bruno, No No No!

Please note this is a screening of the movie not a live stage show.

Gather your family together as we take you on a magical interactive journey where we give you full permission to dance, cheer and sing your heart out.

“Sing-a-long-a Encanto is much more than ‘just a film’”, says Freedman. ”It’s an event, an interactive experience and so much more fun than watching at home!

Every performance starts with a Sing-a-long-a host who warms up the audience, trains them how to interact with the film using the contents of their free props bag and heckle in all the right places. For ages 4 years and upwards and running time: 2 hours 30 minutes including 20 mins interval.

The Birth of Sing-a-long-a

The unique, interactive entertainment form known as Sing-a-long-a, meanwhile, was allegedly born in an old people’s home in Inverness. The nurses wanted to involve the residents in an interactive group therapy. They decided to screen Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and gave out song sheets so that everyone could sing-a-long.

The idea was then developed for the Sound of Music for London’s Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in 1999, before opening at the Prince Charles Cinema in August of that year. After an initial eight-show run soon sold out, while attracting huge media attention, and regular shows has been running ever since not only in London but all around the world.

Singalonga Productions is delighted to add Sing-a-Long-a Encanto and Sing-a-long-a The Greatest Showman to their portfolio of shows such as Sing-a-long-a FrozenSing-a-long-a GREASESing-a-long-a Sound of Music and Sing-a-long-a Rocky Horror Show.
