The cave has been formed over thousands of years from the water and wind causing a great impact on the rock. Many of the caves in this area have been used by animals and humans for shelter. The Limestone from which the cave is formed of, is made from layers of dead marine animals between 280 – 360 million years ago. During this time, the area where Thor’s cave is now was South of the equator with a warm shallow sea. This would have attracted sealife similar to those who live in tropical waters.
