Young at Heart Activities for Retirees in Birmingham

Timeless activities for retirees never looked so fun!

Age is but a number when it comes to fun, so if you’re feeling a little old you’ve come to the right place, as we’re listing our favourite activities for retirees.

Winterbourne House & Garden

This seven-acre Grade II listed garden is an all-year-round experience. It may seem like just a garden but don’t be fooled! This particular garden is home to stunning displays of plants from around the world with collections of plants from China, North and South America and the alpine areas of the globe. Winterbourne is amongst the best surviving Edwardian Arts and Crafts suburban villa gardens in the Midlands. The House & Garden further runs a programme of public garden events throughout the course of the year including open days, special interest tours, local heritage days and music concerts. Understandably a day spent roaming the halls and gardens will definitely leave you feeling peckish, well lucky for you there’s an in-house tea room for visitors to get some refreshments. Winterbourne is more than a garden, it’s a whole world condensed into plants and flowers, waiting to be explored. The accessibility in the park is varied and will require taking care during your visit.

Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park

Calling all animal lovers to take an around the world trip to see your favourite wildlife friends. It doesn’t matter where you go, you’ll see new creatures, from lizards and snakes to fuzzy favourites like monkeys and red pandas. Be sure to visit the keeper stations during feeding times to learn more about the animals and watch them eat. The Conservation Park is all about the wildlife’s safety and is home to some of the worlds most endangered animals, a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to experience some of the worlds biggest wildlife animals. It’s the perfect day out with the grandkids, an exotic adventure all within the comforts of your home city. The park is fully accessible, equipped with ramps, accessible parking bays & mobility impaired walkers.

Cadbury World

Now I know many would think this is a children’s attraction, but when did chocolate have an age? Exactly, so why not indulge yourself in everything Cadbury at Birmingham’s Cadbury World. Take a tour and find out about the history of chocolate manufacturing in Birmingham and see for yourself how the wonderful process of chocolate making works. The company has made provision for visitors with a range of special needs, so a trip here with your loved one should be quite straightforward. Visually impaired visitors have the chance to feel certain props during the tour, and there is a large print script available for those who need it. Hearing aid users are also catered for, as are people with mobility problems who need a wheelchair. This is definitely amongst the unmissable activities for retirees.
