This vast river and gorge forest region, which includes a 40-hectare Special Scientific Interest Site (SSSI), is marked with a kilometre-long walk through magnificent and old woods.
Allen Banks, which was mostly created by Susan Davidson, is now a great habitat for flora, fauna, and fungi. It’s also known as wild garlic, and it has a carpet of bluebells and ramsons on the forest floor throughout the spring and early summer.
The remnants of a mediaeval pele tower and a renovated Victorian summer house may be found along the lovely woodland pathways.
There are around 70 bird species in the Allen Banks, as well as various mammals such as roe deer, dormice, otters, and bats.
