The main section of the House, which was constructed between 1555 and 1587, contains 35 principal rooms just on the ground and first levels. There are more than 80 smaller rooms, as well as many halls, corridors, restrooms, and service facilities to accommodate everyone’s needs. There are three-quarters of an acre of lead roof space, and the restoration and reconstruction of the roof began around 1983 and took nearly 10 years to finish. The Orangery Restaurant, Gift Shop, Gardens of Surprise, and magnificent walks around the ancient parkland, which was laid out by Capability Brown and is still inhabited by a population of fallow deer, are among the attractions for visitors to the park. History may be brought to life in a single visit, whether it is to take a guided tour, walk a dog in the park, paddle a canoe with the kids, watch the Teddy Bear’s picnic in the Gardens of Surprise, or simply relax over lunch in the Orangery.
