Visit the country house and mixed-revivalist castle, Castle Drogo.
Castle Drogo sits high above the Teign Gorge’s historic woodlands. The castle was planned and built by famous 20th-century architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, who was inspired by the rocky Dartmoor tors that surround it. Nothing is as it seems at Drogo, since the castle is undergoing a massive restoration effort to make it watertight.
Outside, the Lutyens-designed garden is vibrant in all seasons, and there are miles of paths to explore in the Teign Gorge, from the bubbling river to the high-altitude Woolston hillfort.
