376 acres of beautiful Grade I listed formal gardens and forests stretch out beyond the five-star country estate. The mansion, which stands magnificently above the chalk cliffs that give it its name, boasts panoramic views of the Berkshire countryside.
The National Trust owns, manages, and carefully cares for the gardens, which include the famous Parterre, seasonal flower displays, unique topiary, and a collection of outstanding sculptures. The famous Parterre, laid out in 1855 by John Fleming, the Maze, which opened in 2011 and is perfect for big and little kids alike, Giant games in the water garden, the Octagonal temple, woodlands with a wealth of walks including a Fitness Trail, a Storybook Play Den, or the paddock with goal posts for sport-lovers and families, the Pavilion built to commemorate the Battle of Blenheim and the amphitheatre where the first recital of “Rule Britannia” was played.
