Sports and Leisure Management Ltd is in charge of the Cotswold Museum Service. Cotswold District Council owns the collections and the building.
The Museum houses extensive holdings of archaeology, social history, and rural history, all of which are internationally significant. The Corinium Museum in Cirencester and the Resource Centre (reserve collections store) in Northleach, ten miles north of Cirencester, are its two main locations. At the Corinium Museum, the Service also runs a Visitor Information Center.
The Corinium Museum houses the world’s best and most comprehensive Romano-British collection relating to a town and its surroundings. It is the focal point for advice, training, and scholarship for the Cotswold District’s one and only museum service. The Museums Service has received full accreditation.
Values, Vision, and Purpose
The Museum’s mission is to:
“To be a world-class archaeology museum that is always evolving.”
The Museum’s mission is to:
“To gather, maintain, and interpret Cotswold District collections for public engagement.”
The following are the Museum’s core beliefs, which underpin everything they do as a museum:
Excellence is something they aim for in all aspects of their service.
Inclusion: They want to reach out to as many people as possible in order to be cognitively, physically, and financially accessible.
By thinking beyond the box, they want to be leading the way rather than following the crowd.
Engagement: They want individuals to have had the opportunity to visit the Museum both in person and virtually through their programmes.
They keep the collections safe for future generations because the artefacts are what make the Museum what it is.
