Take for example the discovery of a long-forgotten garden with tunnels and underground grottoes that had been buried for over 50 years beneath thousands of tonnes of soil. Exactly what happened in Dewstow was described above! Originally constructed in 1895, the gardens were buried shortly after World War II and were unearthed again around 2000. A labyrinth of tunnels and grottoes exists beneath the surface of the earth. Dewstow Gardens & Grottoes is one of the lesser-known, but no less intriguing, sites in South Wales. It is located in the town of Dewstow. Even in their own right, the gardens are a delight to stroll around, with beautifully manicured paths and ornamental beds, waterfalls and ponds, and underneath it all, a labyrinth of tunnels and grottoes to explore.
