Durham Climbing Centre is a contemporary, energetic rock climbing centre in Durham. The Climbing Centre offers approximately 6500 square feet of climbing space all under one roof. Climbing facilities are appropriate for children as young as three years old and provide for all levels of climbers, from beginners to experts. In between ascending the numerous challenges on offer, spectators and climbers may rest in the cosy coffee room and viewing gallery or play a game of table tennis.
Bouldering is a type of climbing that involves climbing without the use of ropes or harnesses. On the climbing walls, boulderers can climb up, across, or diagonally. Climbs are labelled with various colours on the climbing walls, and each climb is referred to as a “problem.” The complexity of the tasks is rated, and the problems are coloured to show whether they are easy, medium, or difficult. When finishing climbs and determining where to go next, problem-solving is required. Short sequences of motions that make up a problem are used to enhance strength and endurance training.
