The Brewery
The North Brink Brewery was founded in 1795 and produces a typical English Ale brewery, in which Elgood’s proudly brews its own beer for local and wider distribution throughout the UK. Since the last few years, a programme of sympathetic brewery restoration has consisted of using equipment originating from 1910 to the present day. Heat and malted grain are combined to make the mash, which produces sweet wort with a malty flavour and a high alcohol content. 1950 Copper (which is made from copper!) is used to add bitterness and fragrance to wort. Hops are then introduced to the wort and boiled in to provide a bitter and floral taste. On its way to the fermentation vessels, the wort is cooled by a palte heat exchanger before it is separated from the hops in a rebuilt 50’s Hop Back, which now is coated in stainless steel. Following the fermentation process, the beer is transported to North Brink’s updated Tank Room for quality control inspections and sampling, before being packed into casks (for beer brewed with real ale) or kegs (for beer filtered and conditioned in the brewery). Rather than brewing their own beers, the company transfers their bottled beers to another brewer to condition and stabilize before they are bottled for them.
