Gala Theatre, the jewel in Durham’s cultural crown, is housed in a stunning £15 million purpose-built structure on the banks of the River Wear.
You’ll find the finest in entertainment & culture at this venue, whether you want to see drama from one of the country’s top theatre companies, laugh along with some of the greatest names in comedy, see some inspirational bands and artists, or treat the kids to an engaging theatre performance.
They also host the Durham Book Festival, including the TakeOff Festival of theatre for young people, also Durham’s annual international BRASS festival, in addition to presenting some of the greatest touring work on the live circuit.
Gala Theatre is also delighted to be a location where they produce outstanding theatre, including their highly renowned yearly pantomime, and where they help artists including young people to develop and flourish.
They are a location where actors, designers, musicians, and technical personnel come together to develop and prosper, thanks to their extensive network of links with the surrounding creative community. They also assist people in making their initial steps in the profession through their artist development programmes as well as their Gala Theatre Stage School.
