Gloucester Life Museum holds an important and fascinating collection of artefacts from the last few hundred years up to the 1960s and 1970s including a working jukebox. The Museum is a popular attraction with a programme of exciting activities for children, a cottage garden and a café. Set on three floors of a Tudor and Jacobean timber-framed building, the Museum dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and has an association with the final night of Bishop Hooper, the protestant martyr. Visitors can wander through our maze of rooms, up narrow staircases and along rickety floors to find the original pin factory on the top floor. ‘Gloucester Old Spot’ by John Miles, a favourite with visitors, is said to be one of the largest pigs ever bred in Britain. Outstanding works held here include portraits of Gloucester worthies such as John and Joan Cooke, Jemmy Wood and Robert Raikes.
