Bess of Hardwick, one of Elizabethan England’s finest, richest, and most prominent ladies, was born at Hardwick Hall. She was the one who built the house and developed the surrounding estate in the late 1500s.
The Hardwick Estate is open seven days a week and features beautiful countryside walks, forested family play paths, locally sourced goods in the shop, and wonderful seasonal cuisine in the restaurant.
Visitors to the English Heritage-managed site can ascend four storeys for stunning views of the Derbyshire countryside and Hardwick New Hall.
