Tucked away between Stamford and Peterborough lies the village of Helpston and the home of the renowned poet, John Clare. Enjoy Clare’s poetry as you spend time in their beautiful grounds, redesigned with assistance from Cambridge Botanic Gardens, which contain varieties of plants which would have been seen in Clare’s time. Or try their relaxed cafe where the team will welcome you with coffee and cake. The John Clare Trust purchased John Clare Cottage in 2005, preserving it for future generations. The Cottage has been restored, using traditional building methods, to create a centre where people can learn about John Clare, his works, how rural people lived in the early 19th century and also gain an understanding of the environment.
John Clare Cottage
John Clare Cottage was the home of poet John Clare from 1793 to 1832.
