Over 30 exhibits at Lakeside, on the southern end of England’s largest lake, Windermere, reveal the fascinating and sometimes hidden world of animals and freshwater species that live in and alongside these wonderful waters. The journey begins with a spectacular mountain-top waterfall that cascades down a moorland creek teeming with salmon. The otters will be seen next, followed by nighttime life on the riverside. There are various types of trout, pike, and Windermere’s elusive char can be found. Finally, you’ll witness the estuary’s freshwater fish as well as the bay’s seawater residents, including rays and sharks from all around the coast. The aquarium is located near the Lakeside Pier, which may be reached by boat from Waterhead or Bowness, or by train from Lakeside and Haverthwaite. There is plenty of parking available.
The aquarium has a gift store, and the Pier has a café with panoramic views of Windermere.
