The 500-acre Kentish parkland surrounding Leeds Castle has served as a Norman stronghold, a private residence for six of England’s mediaeval queens, a palace for Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon, a Jacobean country house, a Georgian mansion, an elegant early twentieth-century retreat for the influential and famous, and in the twenty-first century, it has become one of the most visited historic buildings in the country. Lady Baillie, the Castle’s last private owner, purchased the property in 1926 and turned it into an exquisite venue for lavish weekend gatherings. Among the many other important guests who enjoyed Lady Baillie’s hospitality during this period were Sir Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, and John F. Kennedy, to name a few.
