In this fantastic museum with 12 galleries to visit, learn about social history, art, natural history, archaeology, and more!
The galleries are jam-packed with absolutely wonderful artefacts from throughout the world, and they provide an opportunity to learn about Reading’s 1,000-year history, from its Saxon roots to its current hi-tech status! A rare Victorian reproduction of the Bayeux Tapestry, major archaeological findings from mediaeval Reading and Roman Silchester, and the iconic Huntley and Palmers biscuit tins are among the highlights.
Look for antiques and ceramics on the walls of the foyers, as well as a variety of other things that have been put around the building, to see what the collections have to offer. In the Atrium, there are massive mosaics to see, as well as a display of ancient items retrieved from the Thames, and the excitingly interactive Box Room, where you may handle genuine things from the Museum’s diverse collection!
There’s a lot to see and do there, so make time to go to the Riverside Museum, which covers the tale of Reading’s two rivers, the Kennet and the Thames, and has a beautiful gypsy caravan!
