The award-winning REME Museum is a modern, interactive and informative Museum which tells the proud story of the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).
The entrance to the first gallery is through a mock landing craft stepping out to discover the large Beach Armoured Recovery vehicle used on the D-Day landings. As you follow the trail through the eight galleries, discover incredible stories, like how REME saved Volkswagen at the end of WWII, or why the Museum has the Bronze boots from Mussolini’s statue that once stood in the Piazza Castello.
Displays range from the Army’s largest Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle to a tiny handmade prisoner of war toothbrush. There are a number of hands on interactives, if you are up for a challenge, test your skills on the recovery vehicle simulator
With so many fascinating objects, pictures and stories it’s a great day out for all the family.
The Museum is located outside the military base in Lyneham village and is fully accessible. There is a large car park. Their onsite Crowns Café provides hot and cold meals as well as delicious cakes to accompany a barista coffee. The onsite gift shop sells a range of unique REME and Museum products.
