The Southend Central Museum is located in the centre of the town and presents the narrative of Southend and the surrounding area. Permanent displays include the globally renowned Anglo-Saxon royal burial discovered at Prittlewell and a renovated archaeology wing in 2019. ‘London Shipwreck’ and ‘Wild Estuary’ are two recent notable exhibitions at the museum. Temporary exhibitions and activities are listed on our website. The structure also contains the famous planetarium; to prevent disappointment, make a reservation for one of their presentations in advance.
