Tate Liverpool is one of the major galleries of modern and contemporary art outside of London, housing the North’s national collection of modern art.
While Tate Liverpool does not have its own permanent collection, it does have access to the huge centralised Tate holdings, which contain almost 70,000 works. Its strength is on large exhibitions, which have included works by Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and René Magritte in recent years.
Because of the gallery’s skill in staging exceptional exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, it has been able to tour events around the United States, Korea, and Japan, as well as throughout Europe.
Tate Liverpool constantly has a selection of works from the permanent collection on display. Canvases by early modern masters like Picasso and Braque, Dada and Surrealist work by Duchamp and Ernst, and current work by Simon Starling have all been on display.
