As a hybrid of a museum and a wildlife park, the Lakeland Animals Oasis, near Milnthorpe, is a unique look and learn destination that combines interactive, hands-on displays with exotic wildlife from across the world.
A diverse collection of animals, ranging from starfish to snakes, molluscs to monkeys, is housed at the zoo, which includes endangered species such as Rodrigues fruit bats, lemurs, fossa and snow leopards. The zoo is proud to collaborate with international conservation breeding programmes for many of these species, and the zoo is home to many of them.
Wet days are best spent in the butterfly house or the tropical halls, while the organised displays take you on a fascinating journey through 3000 million years of evolution and the history of life on Earth. The Butterfly House and Tropical Halls Birds and butterflies are allowed to flutter about amid the exotic plants and animals, while other displays include a colony of leaf cutter ants, potoroos, and tenrecs to name a few of the more unusual creatures.
For an additional fee, guests may participate in interactive animal activities and interactions with the animals.
