The Valley Colliery, which served as a training ground for thousands of young men starting their careers in the local coal industry, was originally located on the museum grounds.
The pit is no longer there and almost 30 acres of green space have been created on the outskirts of Cannock Chase, at the entrance to the Hednesford Hills Nature Reserve.
The hills are now one of the last remaining sections of heathland in the United Kingdom. It’s a terrific day out for the whole family, with free admission and a year-round schedule of activities!
