Since the 16th century, the Quarry has been the most prominent recreational area in Shrewsbury. It’s still a great area to unwind, go for walks, picnic, fish along the Severn’s banks, or simply blow off steam. The Dingle, a floral beauty maintained by world-renowned gardener Percy Thrower, who served as Parks Superintendent for 28 years, is located in the middle of the Quarry. It’s a lovely sunken garden with alpine borders, vibrant bedding plants, shrubs, and lovely water features. The Quarry comes alive with more than 3 million blossoms for two days each August when the park hosts the Shrewsbury Flower Show. Showjumping, arena entertainment, premier military bands, and a stunning firework display are all part of the festivities.
The Quarry Park
The Quarry is Shrewsbury’s beautiful, 29-acre parkland, encircled by the majestic loop of the river Severn.
