Visit The Redgrave Theatre
Known formerly as the Clifton College Theatre, the Redgrave Theatre opened in 1966 and was inspired by London’s Mermaid Theatre, which were the first school theatres in the country. It was Sir Michael Redgrave, formerly a student at the college, who was responsible for launching the theatre. After Sir Michael Redgrave’s death in 1985, the building was renamed ‘The Redgrave Theatre’. In the 1970s, the theatre was rented out during the holidays to local amateur theatre groups. It was originally used only for college activities. Since then, the Redgrave’s popularity has steadily increased. The theatre also continues to host the amateur drama groups that first came to the theatre in the 1970s, as well as professional touring shows, comedians, film societies, and music concerts.
