Trentham Gardens offers a terrific day out whether you’re searching for a garden with peace and quiet or a garden with excitement and action.
The contemporary rehabilitation of the famed Italian Gardens was headed by renowned designer and multi-Chelsea gold-medal winner Tom Stuart-Smith, and the new-look gardens have evolved into some of the best in Britain. The Rivers of Grass and the neighbouring Floral Labyrinth are located to the east of the Italian Gardens. Piet Oudolf, a renowned Dutch plantsman and Chelsea gold medalist, developed both of these schemes.
Trentham Lake, built by Capability Brown, is located in the heart of Trentham Gardens. Take the circular lakeside walk all the way around, which takes you alongside the River Trent, through the cascading weir, and along evocative trails, including large meadow schemes designed by Nigel Dunnett and the team behind the Olympic Park’s spectacular wildflower plantings. Seasonal interest and environmental fit were factors in their selection.
Fairies are well-known to live in the bottom of gardens, and Trentham Gardens is no exception! Take the fairy trail and keep a lookout for the fairies as you walk around the magnificent mile-long lake and through the woods and gardens where they live.
