Discover a 17th-century family home surrounded by gardens, forests, and wetlands.
The Vyne has information on William Wiggett Chute and his family who lived there in the mid-19th century. These include a Tudor oak gallery with 16th-century wood carvings and a neo-classical staircase hall. Decorate the Housekeeper’s Room as though you were a Victorian.
Relax in the beautiful gardens and forests. The old forests contain traces of history if you look closely. Find remains of medieval fish ponds and a WWII munitions storage complex. Observe marsh animals from the purpose-built bird hide.
The trails in Morgaston Woods are great for energising treks. In the spring, look for a cloud of bluebells. Foraging for mushrooms under a copper canopy in the autumn. Surround yourself with silence, and you could glimpse a deer strolling through the woods.
Summerhouse Garden on Lime Avenue has seasonal blooms and historic locations. Observe the 17th-century summerhouse’s domed ceiling and Grecian cross. Henry VIII, Jane Austen, and WWII refugees have all visited The Vyne.
The walled garden has daffodil beds in the spring and dahlia beds in the late summer. The Vyne’s orchard, off Lime Avenue, has lovely spring blooms and fall maturing fruit including apples and mulberries.
To relax, the comfortable Brewhouse tearoom provides modest snacks and hot and cold beverages. The north lawn, surrounded by the huge lake and The Vyne’s towering portico, is ideal for a picnic. Our shop, in a historic coach house close to the tea garden, includes goods from National Trust collections and locally produced things.
Daring explorers can try their hand at den construction, orienteering, and geocaching on the grounds or on the family paths. A children’s play area for ages 10 and under is located behind the shop, near the tearoom. Small children may enjoy the Lime Avenue playground.
