Twycross Zoo is renowned as a specialist primate zoo and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK’s only group of bonobos. It has breeding groups of many endangered primate species so there are often babies and toddlers playing around in the orang utan and bonobo groups, and in many of the monkey groups. Set in more than 80-acres, the zoo has around 900 animals of more than 160 species to see, including many native species in the Zoo’s Nature Reserve. You can walk with the ring-tailed lemurs in their new walk-through enclosure; see the giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area and watch penguins take their daily walk. The keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn a bit more about some of the animals such as the chimpanzees, penguins and meerkats. Twycross Zoo’s award winning Education Department offers a variety of discovery opportunities for many different types of groups and parties. The Zoo holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, all sessions are curriculum linked and all are designed to best engage all age groups.
