Visit the world-famous Jorvik Viking Centre which stands on the site of a remarkable archaeological discovery. From 1976 to 1981, archaeologists from the York Archaeological Trust, an independent educational charity, uncovered the houses, workshops, and backyards of the Viking-age city of Jorvik, nearly 1,000 years old.
