Silverstone is delighted to announce the introduction of Lap of Lights, a one-of-a-kind Christmas experience and it will be even larger and better than the year before’s award-winning and sold-out Lap Land event. The Lap of Lights shall begin on December 1st and will be open until January 3rd, with the exception of Christmas Day.
In this Christmas event, visitors will have the chance to drive the historic Formula 1 3.2 mile Grand Prix track under the cover of darkness while taking in a spectacular laser and light show that will trace Santa’s trip across the world. Visitors will be transported to the Silverstone Wing upon the lowering of the chequered flag, in which they can continue their holiday celebrations by visiting the winter-themed Lodge or skating across the illuminated ice rink.
The self-drive lap, which will feature more than 440 laser beams & 400,000-holiday lights, is expected to become even greater than last year’s as guests accompany Santa on his round-the-world adventure, which will surprise and thrill everyone along the route.
Visitors are allowed to leave their vehicles after the festive journey to attend the Silverstone Wing, which will be transformed into a beautiful alpine lodge and will feature the world’s very first skating rink to show up at the world-famous motor racing circuit. The Silverstone Wing will be open for business in 2021 and will be exempt from the COVID restrictions that were in place last year.
In addition, visitors will also have the opportunity to put on their skates and enjoy Ice Trak, a lighted rink that will be constructed outside the garages for Formula 1 and pit lane.
This Christmas after-party will be available to every ticket holder and will include festive, après-fun activities where people of any age can warm up, refuel and rest as DJ Santa entertains on the turntables. Axe throwing, curling, live music, a children’s movie, and a sweets bar are just a few of the things available. There is plenty to enjoy. The mood inside the lodge will change depending on who is in attendance, with a more family-friendly ambience during the day and a more party-like atmosphere as the evening develops.
Following last year’s event, which managed to overcome the difficulties of the pandemic to continue the event for 24 nights running over the festive period, they conducted extensive research among their 200,000 visitors in order to understand how they could further improve the product for 2021.
