November is usually a month of reflection and memory, so they’re bringing back the powerful and poignant sound and light show Poppy Fields, which was first developed by award-winning Luxmuralis in 2016 and returned in 2018 to commemorate the centennial of the end of World War I.
Poppies will fall down the roof, walls, and floor of the beautiful 900-year-old Cathedral in this all-encompassing sound and light spectacle, urging everyone to remember all of those who had fought so courageously for everyone’s peace and safety. David Harper’s specially composed music and lyrics recorded by Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will accompany the presentations.
Poppy Fields will provide visitors with a much-needed chance to reflect on previous and current conflicts, as well as the worldwide epidemic.
The primary show from Luxmuralis’ much-loved ‘Imagine Peace’ is also featured in the 2021 edition of Poppy Fields. With its profound message of optimism for the future, this wonderfully magnificent son et lumiere shall bring the east end of the Cathedral to life. In addition, as a homage to the NHS, the first public screening of a piece made in 2020 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth for International Nurses Day will be exhibited in this freshly curated edition of the event.
