What’s more – Life is celebrating the new Lightyear film with a range of space-themed activities* that are out-of-this-world. Come and explore the science behind one of our favourite astronauts.
Highlights include:
NEW planetarium show: Falling with Style – Take a space-flight like no other in this presenter-led show and explore how gravity effects the Universe. Now using Digistar 7 technology – Life’s planetarium system is the most advanced in the region, with state-of-the-art projectors to provide ultra-rich visuals and a truly immersive experience. Falling with Style showcases the first images released from NASA’s James Webb Telescope making Life the only place in the North East where you can experience them in a large format setting.
Space Zone adventures – be the boss in Mission Control and check out how astronauts poo in space. Walk inside the replica of part of the International Space Station and enjoy stunning shows in the north’s biggest planetarium! All highlights of Space Zone.
Live science show: 3…2…1… Blast Off! – Join the Explainers as they journey through space – can you help them return the spaceship safely back to Earth?
Make an air-powered rocket in the Making Studios – Get hands-on building your own air-powered rocket. Before you take it home, take it for a test-launch and see how high it flies!
Rocket science in Experiment Zone – make your own rocket fuel by mixing chemicals together. Investigate materials to discover which would work best for an astronaut’s visor. (Ages 7+)
Gaia, our planet Earth – be amazed by the 7-metre wide, glowing replica of our shared home, created by British artist Luke Jerram. On the upper level of the science centre, grab an easel and create your own Earth-inspired artwork.
PLUS under-7s fun including Play Zone, discovery backpacks and three pop-up play stations.
*Please note this is not a new exhibition but a series of activities.
