York will follow in the footsteps of the inaugural Oktoberfest, which took place in Munich in 1810 and urged residents to eat, drink, and be happy during Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria’s wedding to his princess wife. It was enjoyed by so many that it became an annual ritual…
This October, York Racecourse will host the brand-new Yorktoberfest, which will feature beer, bratwurst, and all things Bavarian! Step inside the Clocktower Enclosure’s massive marquee, fill your stein with real German beer, get a good snack from one of our German-inspired food vendors, and make your way to your table for some hearty fun with friends.
Live Music
With the thigh-slapping, foot-stomping, toe-tapping, belt-out, feel-good song, York’s own New York Oompah Brass Band will take to the stage. Velma Celli, the famous drag performer, will add to the fun with her powerful voice and irreverent comedy! Dancing, as it has done for almost 200 years, is encouraged!
The Bavarian Bars
The rustic Bavarian Bar may not only keep you refreshed with beer, but also with wines, prosecco, spirits, and soft drinks for those who prefer not to ‘hop.’
The Fun Fair
Funfairs are a staple of German Oktoberfests, and Yorktoberfest will have its own classic funfair, complete with Dodgems, Twister, Speedway, and Chair-o-Plane rides (but no spills, as steins are not invited).
