Since the early 1970s, the area has been developed as a public park. It was formerly part of a flood plain for the River Liffey. The park connects the Athgarvan Road to St Conleths Bridge. The centre of Newbridge is only a 5-minute walk away, and parking is accessible on the main street. Kildare County Council, in collaboration with Newbridge Tidy Towns, keeps the park in good shape.

Because of its position on the outskirts of town, the park is a pleasant and serene retreat from the bustling main thoroughfare. The park’s natural environment in a river valley has been preserved while tree planting and a wildflower meadow have been added. With approximately 1.5 kilometres of trails, the park is ideal for a quick stroll or run. There is also an outdoor gym for those who want a more strenuous workout. There is also plenty of space for people who want to relax or have a picnic. Within 5 minutes of the park, there are several cafés, restaurants, and pubs where you may have refreshments or a bite to eat before or after your visit.
