A Day at Wicksteed Park

Have an Epic Day at Wicksteed Park!

Since it was founded in 1921 and named after its creator (Charles Wicksteed), Wicksteed Park has been a community staple in Kettering, Northamptonshire, promoting education of the historical landscape as well as providing great fun with rides and activities they offer. All this is made possible by the many donations the park receives through Wicksteed Charitable Trust, so it’s able to remain a freely accessible public space. As you can tell, there’s much to do here. So if it’s you’re first time here’s what to expect:

The Itinerary

Rides & Attraction Map - Wicksteed Park

Let’s paint a picture of how your day begins. The park opens at 10am but you and your family arrive a little closer to 10:30. As you’re driving into the entrance, thankfully you can see the large car park just ahead of you on the right which is great as you don’t have to drive in circles for hours trying to find a good space. Once you’ve parked up, and shown your online tickets to the ticket office ( which can also be purchased at the ticket office, you’re all set to go!

So What’s First? – The Adventure Zone

Well, right across the Car Park is the Adventure Zone which covers all things adventurous? and is a great start for small families. Be transported to a wild African safari at Meerkat Manor or the tropical Amazon rainforest at the Woolloomooloo Aviary where you’ll get to meet and interact with these beautiful wildlife creatures.

Tree Top Walk

After the animals, you might want to test yourself at a round of Crazy Golf, face your fears at the Drop Slide, or joke around on the Clown Coaster. Or if you’re not a fan of clowns, don’t worry, there’s so much more to explore in the zone such as: A roundabout, a play factory, Astroslide, good old Cups and Saucers, A mini-jets ride, mini rangers drive experience, a Tree Top Walk, A ‘rockin’ tug ride, and a Lighthouse drop ride.

Next up, The Heritage Zone!

Right next to the Adventure Zone is the Heritage Zone – an area that features familiar rides we’ve all grown up with. Look forward to the classics such as an antique horse carousel, a grand sway rider, and a traditional playground.

Over here, you can also expect to find attractions that are specifically unique to Wicksteed. Mr. Wicksteed’s Classic Cars is a vintage car ride in which kids can pick and drive their own little vintage car around the old English countryside setting. With this, you’ll get to show you’re kids what it was like in the good ol’ days.

Hop aboard the Wicksteed Park Railway where you’ll be taken around the natural parkland along the beautiful lakeshore. With over 15 million people that have ridden the rails since its opening in 1931, this Railway ride is a must when going to the park. Plus there are plenty of instagramable moments to be taken whilst on the scenic route.

Whilst on a lovely day, you can also take a lovely Lakeside walk through the heart of the park and spot many natural beauties whether it be the local wildlife or landscape.

The Thrill Zone

Here’s where the real fun begins! if you’re a thrill-seeker, you’ll love rides like the Dinosaur Valley, Galaxy Invaders, the Paratrooper Fly High Ride, and Rocky River Falls! Twist and turn on Dinosaur Valley, before dipping between the mighty Brontosaurus’ legs, then soaring at great heights. test your orbital tolerance on Galaxy Invaders and fear of heights on the Paratrooper ride. You’ll also have a splash-ton of fun on Rocky River Falls!

You can also expect to see the classic Dodgems as well as the Ladybird rollercoaster and Honeypot Bears ride (which are suited for younger crowds).

It’s Time To Eat, But Where?

After all that adrenaline, I assume you’ve built up quite an appetite, right? Not to worry, Wicksteed has 5 food and drink spots, situated all over the park so you’ll never have to go hungry. Enjoy a nice brew and pastries down at Carousel Café (Heritage zone) or some hot and cold drinks as well as ice lollies at Peacock Café by the lakeside.

Frank’s Burgers, opposite the Sway Rider, is a great place to grab some lunch. And if you fancy something a bit more traditional, dig in at Fran’s Fish & Chips. The park’s cute Ice Cream Parlour is also not to be missed, as they serve their famously delicious Wicksteed Ice Cream.

Last Stop: The Splash Zone

After, a much-needed bite to eat, you’ve now entered the Splash Zone, where you’ll certainly get wet. Here features the oldest Water Chute in Britain, designed by Charles Wicksteed himself, and existing as a ride at the park since 1926! on this ride, visitors sit in a wooden boat which slowly releases and rolls down a track into the lake, creating a big splash.

In the Splash zone, you can also paddle in the lake by using the Lake boats or equally going in the paddle lakes for children. Kids can also delight in the Sand & Water Play area which includes cranes, chute, tippers, and platforms.
