Here’s What to do at Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park

There’s lots to explore at this friendly garden and animal park!

Opened in 2008, this award-winning family-run attraction is a special mixture of animals, nature, exotic birds, and gardens.  Since being granted a zoo licence in 2017, they have expanded their collection to include more exotic animals, and with more additions each year, there’s always something new to see. So here’s a list of things to do as well as facilities at this amazing garden and animal park:

Explore the Gardens

Formal Gardens

Arranged in a formal design around a central fish pond, these gardens are linked by gravelled and lawned paths, creating 4 distinct ‘garden rooms’.  With arbours, a gazebo, and other seating areas in both sun and shade making them a relaxing place to sit and enjoy the Exotic Birds in their landscaped aviaries.

Secret Garden

Find the secret door from the formal gardens and enter a hidden little garden with an entirely different atmosphere – a place that allows the imagination to run free! Shaded by pine trees, and planted with hostas and ferns, it’s cool, calm and peaceful. This area is also home to their barn owl and energetic chipmunks.

Sensory Garden

Get in touch with your senses in the beautiful Sensory Garden. This uniquely designed spiral garden has something for everyone – whatever your age or ability.

Meet the Animals

Come and meet the park’s collection of friendly animals in their spacious enclosures – ranging from Alpacas to Zebu and giant rabbits to miniature ponies. Even on rainy days you can stay undercover and watch them having fun in their heated house.

Nearby, you’ll find more small mammals, including a striped skunk, rabbits, guinea pigs, and playful Tanuki – also known as Racoon dogs. Other exotic species you’ll see in this area include Bearded Dragons, a five-foot albino Corn Snake, and Josie, their 60-year-old resident tortoise!

If you continue past the gardens, the park opens up into paddocks housing the larger animals. They love meeting visitors – especially if you are carrying a bag of animal food (which can be bought at the entrance).

Watch Exotic Birds

When entering the Park you are greeted by gobbling turkeys, noisy geese, ducks, chickens and bantams.  As you explore further you will discover many more exotic birds ranging from tiny finches to tall rheas.

Surrounding the Formal Gardens you will find landscaped aviaries housing many of the smaller exotic birds.  Here you can sit and watch the colourful birds and listen to them singing.

Nature

Alongside all of the Animals, Birds and Gardens you’ll also find many areas dedicated to the conservation of our native wildlife such as their Wildlife pond, Seed & Nectar Bar, Wildflower Trail, and Willow Tunnel.

Play Park

Take a break while the children let off steam on the playpark.  They can test their skills balancing on the activity trail, climbing up onto towers and platforms, going down the slide and fireman’s pole, or just hide away in the tunnels and dens.
