How To Celebrate Black History Month

For centuries, people from Africa and the Caribbean background have played an important role in British history. Campaigners, on the other hand, think that our worth and benefit to society is frequently neglected, ignored, or misrepresented.

How to celebrate Black History Month. Some institutions still teach a history curriculum that emphasises conventional events and white individuals’ accomplishments. Everyone may share, celebrate, and comprehend the importance of black ancestry and culture during Black History Month.

How To Celebrate Black History Month

The purpose of the event is to honour people of African or Caribbean descent for their contributions and accomplishments. It’s also a chance for individuals to learn more about the consequences of racism and how to combat bad perceptions. When Black History Month began in the United Kingdom, there was a strong emphasis on African American heritage. With the passage of time, greater emphasis has been placed on black British history and significant black people in the UK, such as:

Malorie Blackman, a bestselling author and the first black Children’s Laureate Olive Morris, a social activist who co-founded organisations such as the Organisation of Women of African and Asian Descent and the Brixton Black Women’s Group. Walter Tull, the very first black officer to command white troops in the British Army and one of English football’s first black players.

Ballet Black

Ballet Black by Cassa Pancho is a professional ballet group dedicated to dancers of African and Asian origin. They’re changing the face of classical ballet in the United Kingdom — on stage, behind the scenes, and among viewers and dance students. Ballet Black has sought to transform the landscape of classical ballet in the nineteen years since its founding (2001) through performances, its Junior School, and outreach programmes. They have built varied dance audiences across the country and are one of the most prolific commissioners of new and critically praised ballets in the UK. Ballet Black is also pushing for broader societal change through innovative partnerships, such as the development of the first UK-made pointe shoes for Black, Brown, and Asian dancers. Their ultimate objective is to see a significant increase in the number of Black and culturally diverse dancers in major ballet companies, therefore obviating the need for their initial vision.
