Where The Heart Is (1997 – 2006)
Skelthwaite is a fictitious Yorkshire village that serves as the setting for a British television family drama series, Where the Heart Is. The Tv show was first broadcasted in 1997 and was developed by Ashley Pharoah and Vicky Featherstone. It is a drama series that follows the professional and personal lives of district nurses who work in the town. Sarah Lancashire and Pam Ferris who portrayed sisters-in-law and coworkers at the Skelthwaite Health Centre respectively were the initial leads. A typical episode would centre on one or two medical tales that were intertwined with personal anecdotes about one or both of the nurses who worked on the show. In spite of the fact that both actresses had departed by 2000, the formula of at least two female protagonists was maintained with different actresses until the show’s cancellation in 2006.
Barbara (1995 – 2003)
No-nonsense Barbara Liversage, a Yorkshire housewife, establishes herself as the agony aunt and problem solution for her extended family. Barbara is forthright, outspoken, and, on sometimes, downright offensive. The no-nonsense Yorkshire woman, who works part-time in a doctor’s office, lives with her modest, mild-mannered taxi driver husband Ted and their adult son Neil in a little town in the north of England. Barbara’s daughter Linda and her useless TV presenter husband Martin, sister Jean, her friend and colleague Doreen, and the assortment of workmen, delivery boys, salesmen, shopkeepers, and sick members of the public who she is forced to put up with on a daily basis all contribute to her growing dissatisfaction with the modern world.
Heartbeat (1992 – 2010)
Heartbeat is set in the 1960s in the fictitious Yorkshire town of Aidensfield and follows the characters’ lives. The first two seasons are centred on the lives of Nick Rowan, a London police officer who relocates to the hamlet with his medical wife Kate. Several of Nick’s police colleagues appear in the series, all of whom are under the command of the crusty but good-hearted Sergeant Blaketon. Blaketon’s arch-nemesis is Claude Jeremiah Greengrass, a poacher who also happens to be a part-time fence. Greengrass is a frequent visitor to the Aidensfield Arms hotel, which is owned by George Ward and his attractive niece Gina, who serves as general manager. Much of the series’ day-to-day social interaction takes place at the bar, which is where we witness the majority of it. Heartbeat is based on the Nicholas Rhea novel series, The Constables. Over the years, there have been a large number of Heartbeat coppers. The following are some examples: Alf Ventress PC, Phil Bellamy PC, Nick Rowan Sgt. Nick Rowan PC, Mike Bradley DC. Sgt.
