Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Gardens

Although this castle looks in ruins now, this one used to be one of the favourites of the mighty Queen Elizabeth I. So how was this castle was allowed to degrade to this state? It was during the first English civil war when the Parliamentary forces occupied the structure. Having some concerns they ordered to destroy the castle to prevent its use by Royalist Forces. Once the war ended and the Royals came back, no one really cared to restore it. But this did not stop people from visiting through the 18th and 19th centuries as a touristic spot prompting to print one of the first touristic guides in 1777.

Warwick Castle

If you want knights, jousting and a medieval English adventure, Warwick Castle is the place to go! Although it might not look very old, its story dates from before the 12th century. It is so important that in the midst of the War of the Roses, Richard Neville Earl of Warwick imprisoned King Edward IV of England in its walls. After being restored in the 17th century, the castle grew the curiosity of tourists which made it one of the major attractions in the country. Nowadays it hosts a wide varied range of events, but also, you can even hire their lodges and receive special training as a knight.
