White Cliffs 007 Connections

Calling all 007 fans, visit the White Cliffs Country and follow in Bond’s footsteps!

White Cliff Country actually has plenty of connections to 007 and with the brand new film ‘No Time To Die’ it seems fitting to mention these links and where in Dover you can find the connections yourself.

The author of James Bond, Ian Fleming, had been inspired by plenty of areas within Deal, Dover and Sandwich. Ian Fleming was inspired by the White Cliffs Country when writing James Bond due to having his holiday home located in St Margaret’s Bay. He discovered an abundance of inspiration when exploring the White Cliffs Country and found plenty of locations to relate to when writing the adventures of 007. When sitting in his holiday home pictured above, he wrote ‘Goldfinger’ as well as ‘Moonraker’.

You can track down the locations that the two books ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Moonraker’ were inspired by and seeing what he saw from the references in the books.

The Goldfinger route within White Cliffs Country begins at St. Margaret’s travelling via Deal as you drive along the A258 to Sandwich. After arriving at Sandwich you will then proceed to Ramsgate Harbour, then to Reculver. You will then travel along Faversham, Chatham and then Rochester. In Goldfinger James Bond drives away from London to Sandwich in order to escape London.

The Moonraker route begins in London and you must turn off the M20 at junction 8. Driving along you will drive to Charring Hill towards Chilham. Then drive towards Canterbury. You will then drive to Dover. If you have ever read the books then you will be able to identify the spots and what had happened in the book whilst following these trails. This was the third novel of 007’s adventures written by Ian Fleming.

Fleming had written about actual places around the South and had visited them, and many of these locations may still be seen today.
