This 18th-century mansion, set amid 162 hectares (400 acres) of ancient parkland and gardens, was acquired by Lord and Lady Iliffe in the 1950s when it was de-requisitioned following WWII. The Iliffes resurrected Basildon Park with remarkable vision, amassing a collection of exquisite furniture and carefully chosen Old Masters.
With spring bluebells, summer buttercups, and fall leaves, the forested parkland provides beautiful seasonal colour, while the landscape has been meticulously maintained to offer great vistas, quiet paths, and picnic spots, as well as areas for children to run and play. Winter walks are essential.
