This Summer you will be travelling to famous landmarks across the globe on your super sightseeing adventures around Hestercombe’s beautiful gardens. Pack your sunscreen and sunglasses for their super summer trail and weekly themed activities and crafts.
All that exploring is hungry work, which is why they’ll have plenty of tastes from across the world for you to try out in their restaurant and across the site, such as Egyptian sweet cookies and Aussie style BBQ.
Around the World at Hestercombe in 40 Days garden trail: 23rd July – 31st August
Take part in their ‘Around the World’ garden trail as they visit some of the most famous landmarks of these countries, from the Taj Mahal to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. You’ll need to hunt for important items to pack in your suitcase. After all, a holiday isn’t a holiday without a pair of sunglasses!
India Week: 25th – 31st July
26th July: Did you know that yoga is believed to have originated in India about 5,000 years ago? So they’ll be hosting mini yoga sessions for little ones to celebrate their visit to India.
28th July: Inspired by India’s beautiful, traditional patterns, they’ll be painting Mandala – a word from the classical Indian Sanskrit language meaning ‘circle’ – onto stones.
The popular Indian sweets Gulab Jamuns will be available to sample at their craft session.
Australia Week: 1st – 7th August
2nd August: Next they’ll be heading down under to visit Australia with a visit from Exmoor Zoo, who’ll be dressed up as Australian rangers and showing off some of their more exotic creepy crawlies.
4th August: They’ll be making Aboriginal dot art boomerangs and learning all about Indigenous Australians and their native patterns.
They’ll be serving up BBQ on select days to celebrate in true Aussie style.
Egypt Week: 8th – 14th August
9th August: They’re heading to the land of the Pharaohs for a special day of an Egyptian themed archaeological dig.
11th August: For their craft session, you will be able to make aged paper and write your very own name using Hieroglyphics.
The café will also be serving up a fig and pomegranate dessert – a favourite of the Ancient Egyptians!
America Week: 15th – 21st August
16th August: Let’s go to the U S of A, with a flying visit from some American Birds of Prey such as an American eagle and hawk.
18th August: Create your own Statue of Liberty Headdress resembling the famous statue’s crown.
As a sweet, sugary, American treat they’ll be celebrating their travels with some special cupcakes.
Italy Week: 22nd – 28th August
23rd August: Molto bene! For Italy week they’ll be pretending they’re in Venice with punting on their Pear Pond.
25th August: Dress up and make your very own homemade Venetian mask with their step-by-step art session.
Italy week wouldn’t be truly Italian without a pasta dish and gelato for dessert (although their Baboo gelato is made in Cornwall!)
Two play areas to enjoy!
On your visit, stop off at either of their play areas for some summer fun. Their under-7s play area is situated by the Visitor Reception, and children both young and old will enjoy building dens up in their wild play area by the Charcoal Burner’s Camp.
Food & drink
Treat your little ones (and yourself of course!) with some delicious home-cooked food from The Stables Restaurant, which offers a child-friendly menu with full table service. Tasty light bites, cakes, drinks and around the world flavours will be available in Caffè + Gelato.
Please note: You do not need to book to attend any of the Super Summer events. Simply purchase standard garden admission (free for members) and drop-in to the events.
