Audiences are invited to a special live recorded performance of the Olivia Murphy Jazz Orchestra on Symphony Hall Stage. “Somewhere, Not So Far Away” is a set of compositions for 21-piece jazz orchestra based on memories and inspiring people in Olivia’s life. Influenced by the likes of Duke Ellington, Kenny Wheeler, Maria Schneider and Miho Hazama, Olivia’s compositional aim is to deliver a story and evoke emotion to the listener, all while celebrating some of the brightest musical voices from Birmingham and London’s jazz scenes. This project is supported by Help Musicians’ Peter Whittingham Development Award.
