Why Emma Loves Forest Bathing in Winter
Winter is one of my favourite times to do Forest Bathing. The characters of the trees seem to stand out more, it’s a great time to explore as everything is scaled back and easier to access. You do need to wrap up really well, put on a big coat, hat, gloves, scarf and at least two pairs of socks! There are many potential benefits to health and well-being especially if you have been hibernating indoors all winter and feeling sluggish. It can help to shake off the winter blues, uplift mood and outlook, reduce stress and lower blood pressure, give a little boost to your immune system and stimulate some creative energy to channel into upcoming projects. By early February we should be just starting to see the first stirrings of spring which can be heartening in itself.
What is Forest Bathing?
This Japanese practice is a process of relaxation; known in Japan as shinrin yoku. The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you whilst breathing deeply can help both adults and children de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way.
Scientific research has been done to measure the healing benefits derived from simply being in a Forest/Woodland setting in a mindful way. It also gives you a chance to enjoy the forests and green spaces more and encourages you to want to take more care of them.

What to bring
Please bring suitable clothing layers, including long sleeves and trousers. It protects skin from scratches from branches, brambles, ticks, etc. Sensible walking shoes or boots and a waterproof ground rug or lightweight folder stool or chair if you are uncomfortable sitting on a rug or mat.
Please bring water and sun protection.
