• The Alexandra Birmingham’s pioneering Summer youth project, Stage Experience, returns in 2023 for its eighteenth year 
• Applications are now open, with both performer and technical places available 
• The most talented future stars of the West Midlands will take to the stage to present a full-scale production of Bring It On featuring music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda
• Bring It On will be showing at The Alexandra Birmingham with the best of West Midlands’ talent from 17 to 19 August 2023 

The Alexandra’s Stage Experience is back for its 18^th year, with the Birmingham premiere of Bring It On. Rising stars from across the West Midlands will have the chance to ‘tread the boards’ in this full-scale production, inspired by the cult Y2K hit film, based on high school cheerleading competitions. 

Stage Experience is The Alexandra’s annual youth theatre production. Any and all young people with the ambition to perform on stage or work behind the scenes are encouraged to apply for the auditions. These are open to anyone aged 9 – 24 who can commit two whole intensive weeks of their summer holiday to putting on a musical. 

Simon Creed, Theatre Director says: “I am thrilled that Stage Experience returns to brighten up our theatre in Summer 2023. The West Midlands is a melting pot of theatrical talent and we cannot wait to present Bring It On, which would mark the show’s Birmingham premiere. Stage Experience forms a hugely important part of The Alex’s calendar and we look forward to the return of the talented creative team that brought Fame to the stage this year.”

If successful, applicants will work alongside experienced industry professionals including directors, choreographers and technical teams, to mount a full-scale production of Bring It On in just two weeks. For those who have an interest in working behind the scenes, in lighting, sound, wardrobe, flys, stage management and more, there are a limited number of technical placements available.  

Stage Experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make memories, meet new friends, hone professional theatrical skills in a fast-paced environment and experience first-hand what it is like to take part in a large-scale production on a par with West End and touring musicals.  

The intensive fortnight culminates in four fully-staged performances complete with a professional orchestra, set, lighting, sound and costumes at The Alexandra, Birmingham. The dates for this year’s Stage Experience are Friday 4 to Saturday 19 August 2023, with performances on Thursday 17 to Saturday 19 August 2023.
